Teeth Extractions in Middletown, Ohio

Sometimes, your only viable treatment option is to remove a damaged tooth. When this is the case, book an appointment with our friendly dentist at Middletown Smile Center. When you come to us for dental work, you can be assured that you receive the best possible care at affordable prices.

Am I a candidate for a tooth extraction?

A complete extraction of a damaged tooth is considered as a last resort option for treatment. If you have tried other treatments, but they have failed, then a full extraction of a damaged tooth may be the only viable option left. In cases of extremely severe decay or damage, other methods of treatment may not even be possible.

Other situations where tooth extraction is considered are when baby teeth do not naturally fall out or when teeth are growing in a way that blocks or damages other teeth. If you think you may need an extraction, call us today to book your consultation with our dentist.

How will my tooth be extracted?

The method used to extract your tooth will depend on the state that it is in. When you come to see our dentist at Middletown Smile Center, we will assess your mouth and take x-rays so that our dentist fully understands the extent of the damage and the positioning of your tooth.

If your tooth to be removed is visible, a simple extraction will be performed. Your tooth will be loosened with a tooth elevator before being pulled out with forceps. If your tooth is not visible, you will require a surgical extraction. This merely requires a small incision in the gum to access and safely remove the tooth.

Will it hurt to have my tooth pulled out?

It is natural to worry about the pain you may feel when you have a tooth fully removed. When you come to Middletown Smile Center for tooth removal, you can rest assured that our friendly team will help you to feel as comfortable as possible throughout the whole procedure.

You will be given a local anesthetic to numb your tooth while it is removed. Laughing gas is also available if you think you require it. You should expect to feel the pressure of the tooth being pulled out, but never pain. If you do feel pain at any point, please tell your dentist immediately so that they can help you.

How do I take care of my mouth after my tooth extraction?

Our dentist will talk to you about aftercare and how to manage any pain that you experience. When the tooth has been removed, your dentist will place a gauze pad over the socket which you will bite on to help clot the blood and reduce bleeding. You will keep this in place for up to four hours.

If you have any swelling, hold an icepack to your cheek for a maximum of ten minutes at a time to help alleviate it. Over-the-counter medication can be taken to relieve any pain. Be careful when brushing your teeth and eating to avoid the extraction site. Rinse your mouth out with salt water to help prevent any infection from developing.
