Teeth Whitening in Middletown, Ohio

If your teeth are discolored and you are looking for a way to effectively and safely brighten up your smile, then you should have your teeth professionally whitened. Our experienced team uses only the latest and best technology to whiten your teeth and give you back your bright, white smile!

How does professional teeth whitening work?

Professional teeth whitening at our office involves using a peroxide-containing product that gets the deep stains out of your enamel. When you visit us, we will assess the level of staining on your teeth and decide which peroxide concentration will be needed to whiten your teeth best.

The peroxide in professional whitening agents is able to penetrate your tooth enamel to get the deep stains out of your teeth. The oxygen in the whitening agent reacts with the molecules in the stain, breaking the bonds and whitening your teeth. Non-professional whitening methods are only able to remove surface stains.

What whitening products does Middletown Smile Center use?

When you have your teeth professionally at Middletown Smile Center, you can be confident that you will walk away from your treatments with whiter teeth. We use the Opalescence whitening system to improve the shade of your teeth, which has been the world leader in whitening systems for over 20 years.

Opalescence uses a gel containing either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to remove the deep stains in your teeth. Potassium nitrate and fluoride are also included in the gel to maintain the health of your enamel during the process. The gels are available in regular, mint and melon flavors.

Why should I come to the dentist for teeth whitening instead of using over-the-counter products?

Professional teeth whitening is guaranteed to leave you with brighter, whiter teeth. Over-the-counter products, however, often have little effect or only a short-term effect.

Tooth discoloration can be classified as either intrinsic or extrinsic. Extrinsic staining is on the surface of your teeth only and some can be removed by over-the-counter whitening products, including rinses and toothpastes. Intrinsic stains are deep in your dentin and between the microcracks in your enamel. Professional whitening done, or supervised, by your dentist is required to remove intrinsic stains and those more stubborn extrinsic stains.

Are there any side effects of teeth whitening?

Some people may experience an increase in tooth sensitivity after they have had them whitened. If you already have sensitive teeth, your chances of this are higher, and you should tell your dentist prior to undergoing treatment. The concentration of whitening agent used can be modified to reduce the chances of higher sensitivity after treatment.

This is often a short-lived side effect, and your teeth will feel normal again after a few days. Your dentist will always discuss the risks with you prior to treatment. After treatment, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for advice if you experience any discomfort.
